| Today's Daily Word Monday, August 16, 2010 Greetings friend! Today’s message is not meant to teach you any new ideas. It is not intended to give you any more “education” than you already possess. In fact, it may not teach you anything that you don’t already know. Today’s message is intended to help you take the knowledge that you already have and apply it to your life. You see, most of us already know what it is we are supposed to be doing. But doing it is sometimes much more difficult than knowing it. Of course this message is directed to born-again believers, but if you have found this page and are not born-again, I encourage you to click the button to the left entitled “Plan of Salvation” to find out how you can be born again. For those of us who are already born again, today’s lesson is simple. Notice I said simple, not easy! I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are like me in many respects. If you are, it is not the “big” things that are a problem in your life, but the little things. You see our goal, as Christians, should be to become more like Christ everyday. Some of us think we have it whipped. After all, we are not out getting drunk every night or beating our wives. Unfortunately, these sins that we consider to be “big”, are just sins like any other sin. Today I want to talk about less obvious sins. Today I want to take the focus off of trying not to do the bad, and put the focus back on doing the good. If we know what we ought to be doing, and do not do it, James tells us that it is sin.
James 4:17 17 Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins. What I’m talking about here is getting back to the basics of Christianity. Read your Bible everyday. Pray everyday. Walk and talk and think and act in a way that you know is pleasing to God. Like I mentioned earlier, it’s simple, but might not be that easy. The key is giving God some time. If you will commit to spend some time with God everyday in His Word and in prayer, I believe that the rest will come in time. Please don’t misunderstand me. I am not telling you this because I have it all together. On the contrary, I need work in this area too. I am sharing this with you today because it is what I am going through as well. So please prayerfully consider what basics you can put into your life (or back into your life), and then commit to it daily. Love in Christ, Ted

Gibbs | | About the book - “Ted lays a tremendous foundation of scriptures and challenges us to live in the grace of God that is provided through the Lord Jesus Christ – not of works lest any man should boast. Our work, as Ted graciously explains, is out of our hearts responding to the intimate relationship of adoption. As we let our soul delight in the abundance of God’s love, our overflow will be His grace working in and through us.” Gregory Pope Pastor, Covenant Church | |
